12 April 2015 – Race report Summer CC Rd 3 Cusses Gorse 12th April by Sarah Hammond 2015

EASSC were welcomed to a perfectly prepared Cusses Gorse for the 3rd round of the Championship sponsored by Evo Tech. The sun was shining and a gale was blowing but the riders were raring to have a go round the technical track. With racing getting away promptly at 10 O’clock and smooth running all day 3 blocks of racing were enjoyed by all. Big thanks to all the volunteers and helpers who give up their time to make this happen.

First on the order were the Open class which saw some spectacular riding from Matthew White, Jack Gregory and Jake Fry all battling it out for the win. Jack Gregory took some dirt samples in a crash on the start in his first race which saw him take second on the podium. Some confusion over which class he should be in saw Jake Fry only complete 2 races in the Open class and although running in the top 3 both races saw him finish in 11th giving 3rd overall to Glen Bixby.

Mark Young was the man on a mission in the AMX dominating the class with 3 race wins. Danny Neal had a good showing with three 2nds and third place went to John Eaton. Championship leader Chubbie Hammond lost the tip of his spark plug in race one knocking his overall placing to 6th.

Next up were the auto riders with a great line up of 29 riders completing the whole track. This did not phase the little warriors and they were giving it full beans on the big jumps. Harrison Greenough was in a class of his own and even after going down in race 1 he charged through the pack to take 3 race wins with a huge gap on the rest of the pack. Some sterling riding went to Spike Stevens and Jack Davies who took 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the Juniors it was Alfie Jones who took all 3 wins with ease with some outstanding riding and had a gap of nearly 1 minute between him and 2nd place!! Raife Broadley and Kyle Ingram finished on joint points but Raife having the better 3rd race it gave him 2nd overall with Kyle following in 3rd.

Another fantastic class to watch was the Small Wheels and yet again some fabulous riding from Olly Davidson seeing him lead all 3 races from start to finish with ease. After going down in race 2 we saw some superb skill and passes from Kayden Algar with his bright pink helmet charging back through the pack to take 3rd place giving him an overall finish of 2nd with some consistent riding from Travis Steels giving him 3rd.

The Big Wheel Class saw Callum Mitchel storm into action giving him two race wins and a second. Some fantastic riding from Ryan Allison, Drew Anderson and Gary Ashley but a crash in race 1 for Gary saw him knocked off the podium.

Next out were the Seniors with Tyrone Cleaver looking like a flying Glow Worm in his bright yellow kit. Some fantastic battles with second place man Dylan Hodgkins who put the pressure on for the whole of race 2 but couldn’t quite get past. There were some good battles going on for 3rd between Jak Baldwin and Todd Ritchie on his 125 with 3rd place going to Jak.

Last but not least were the Vets with Glen Bixby who rode 2 classes back to back to take the 2 wins on the day handing him first place. Some great riding and passes were made between Joe Anderson on his 4 banger and Paul “Wildman” Willis on his little 125 with only 3 points separating them at the end of the day. A little mention to new rider Robert Taylor who rode with a broken finger and finished in 14th giving him his best ever finish! Well done.

EASSC next meeting will be at the sandy track of Chippenham near Newmarket. Thanks to everyone who came to race and we hope to see you next time.
